The village
Listed "One of the most beautiful village in France"

During the Middle Ages, Apremont was a village of quarry workers ; the quarries were providing in plenty dimension stones transported on canal barges through the Allier and the Loire. The main use of those stones was the construction of religious building such as Orléans Cathedral. One of the houses of the village, dating from the XVth century , is still named "Bargemen house".

Between the two wars, Eugène Schneider, ironmaster of Le Creusot, helped by the architect M. de Galéa, undertakes a heavy renovation project in order to valorise the village: What is not in harmony with the site is demolished and replace by houses built in regional middle ages style.
